How does MIC type approval work?

MIC type approval confirms that the model and band version may be used in Vietnam. It is hardware-specific: the frequency range and power on the certificate must match the radio. The local importer usually holds the certificate and submits the manufacturer’s technical file and test reports.

Frequency licensing is a separate step. The operator applies for the channels and locations it will use, and programming happens after the licence is granted. For factories, construction sites and multi-building campuses, list every location and talk group in the application.

Which frequencies suit Vietnamese sites?

UHF is common in factories, hotels, airports and dense urban sites; VHF is used where coverage must cross long open roads, ports or rural areas. The licence defines the exact channels and band version, so the radio must be ordered to match. Do not assume a licence-free European or US channel plan is legal.

Steel structures, multi-floor factories and container yards are the main coverage challenges. A repeater on a roof or a central mast can cover a compact industrial park; a multi-building site needs a survey and may need a second repeater or distributed antennas. Test at peak shift, when forklifts and machinery add noise and obstruction.

How do radios enter Vietnam?

A licensed importer handles customs and the import approval. The invoice, packing list and HS code must match the approved model and band. Lithium batteries need UN38.3 and SDS, and chargers must be rated for 220 V with the plug type used at site.

Product registration and import approval can add time, so start the document review before production. For first orders, a small shipment can validate the file before a larger rollout. Keep the approval, licence, invoice and battery documents together.

What radio setup suits Vietnam?

Humidity, dust and heat are the main environmental factors. Choose IP67 terminals, a loud speaker and a battery rated for at least 12 hours. In factories and construction sites, use remote speaker microphones and a rugged charging plan; in hotels, use earpieces and low alert volume to protect the guest experience.

A typical project uses 30–100 radios, one or two repeaters and 4–10 mobile or base radios. Spare batteries and a multi-way charger keep shifts running. Program, label and lock the channel plan before shipment so the local team can issue radios immediately.
